Overview:
The Ahar Cenotaphs, part of the Ahar Museum, is a historical site located just 2 km east of Udaipur, Rajasthan. This significant monument is renowned for being the cremation ground of the Maharanas of Mewar, showcasing stunning 15th-century architecture. The complex features 19 intricately carved marble cenotaphs or chhatris, each dedicated to a Mewar king, including famous rulers like Maharana Amar Singh and Maharana Fateh Singh.
The cenotaphs are beautifully adorned with detailed carvings and columns, topped by arched domes. Their architraves include images of Lord Shiva and figures of the Maharana along with their queens.
Adjacent to the cenotaphs is the Ahar Archaeological Museum, which displays a small but fascinating collection of ancient artifacts, including terracotta toys, stone weights, a metal Buddha statue, and other items excavated by Rajasthan's Archaeological Department.
This serene and historically rich site offers a unique glimpse into the royal past of Mewar, making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts and photographers alike.
