The Big Banyan Tree, or Dodda Alada Mara, is a 400-year-old banyan tree located in Kethohalli, near Bangalore. Covering over 3 acres, it’s one of the largest of its kind in India. Despite a past disease that affected its main roots, the tree has survived, growing multiple new roots and expanding its canopy. With a circumference of over 250 meters, it is a stunning example of nature’s power. Locals revere it, associating it with Hindu gods Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. The site, managed by the Karnataka horticulture department, has become a popular attraction with neat paths and painted benches.
