Located near the iconic Victoria Memorial and St. Paul's Cathedral, the Birla Planetarium in Kolkata is Asia’s largest and the world’s second-largest planetarium. Founded in 1963 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, it stands as a premier center for astronomy and science education. History & Architecture
The planetarium was inaugurated by Prime Minister Nehru in 1963 and has since been a hub for scientific exploration. Its architecture, inspired by the Sanchi Stupa, features a magnificent 23-meter dome that can accommodate 688 people. The planetarium's stellar visuals are enhanced by a Carl Zeiss projector, making it a visual treat for visitors. With its manicured gardens and grand design, Birla Planetarium is not just a scientific marvel but also a visual and architectural delight.
