The fort was renamed Daulatabad and became the capital of the Tughlaq dynasty for a brief period. Despite its strategic importance, the capital was moved back to Delhi due to water shortages, leaving the fort abandoned soon after.

Additionally, its surrounding moat, once filled with crocodiles, provided an extra layer of protection.
