Overview: Fateh Sagar Lake, a stunning artificial lake built in 1687, is the second-largest lake in Udaipur. Nestled against the Aravalli hills, the lake is a prime spot for boating, offering a serene experience with picturesque views, especially during sunset. The lake spans over one square kilometer and is divided into three islands, each offering unique attractions. Nehru Park, with its boat-shaped restaurant and small zoo, is the largest island, while the second features water fountains, and the third houses the Udaipur Solar Observatory, one of Asia’s best solar observing sites.
History: Originally created by Maharana Jai Singh in 1687, the lake was rebuilt by Maharana Fateh Singh in 1889 after the original earthen bund was washed away. The lake was renamed to honor him.
Events:
- World Music Festival: A three-day celebration in February featuring mesmerizing performances from national and international artists.
- Hariyali Amavasya Mela: A vibrant fair in August/September celebrating the monsoon with cultural events and festivities.
How to Reach: Fateh Sagar Lake is easily accessible by private cabs, state-owned taxis, and tuk-tuks, which are common in Udaipur. A quick and affordable ride will take you straight to the lake.
Fateh Sagar Lake is a must-visit for anyone in Udaipur, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, history, and cultural events.
