Once owned by Mr. Neil, a French businessman, this palace later became a vital hub for Islamic education, shaping the foundation of some of the most prominent Muslim scholars in the country. History of Firangi Mahal
The history of Firangi Mahal dates back to the 11th century, but it truly began its prominence between the 1550s and 1690s. The place was initially a residence for the Alam Hafiz family in 1559 before becoming a significant Islamic learning center under the guidance of Aurangzeb’s advisor and his brother.
After being owned by the French businessman Mr. Neil, the palace was handed back to the Mughals, further elevating its educational importance. During the Khilafat movement, Firangi Mahal also gained recognition as a residence for leaders like MK Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sarojini Naidu who stayed here to further the cause of unity among the communities.
This palace not only represents the rich Islamic heritage of Lucknow but also holds deep cultural and historical significance, having played an active role in India's freedom struggle.
