Gorakhgad is a captivating hill fort nestled in the Thane district of Maharashtra, known for its natural beauty and historical significance. Standing taller than its twin fort, Machindragad, Gorakhgad offers an enriching trek with lush greenery, caves, and ancient cisterns. At the summit, you'll find a Shiva temple and a statue of the bull ‘Nandi,’ which pays homage to the fort’s patron deity.

The trek offers a scenic route surrounded by thick vegetation and winding paths, with water cisterns along the way—some offering potable water. A visit to Machindragad, just 1,500 feet away, is also highly recommended.

  • By Road: Kalyan is well connected to Mumbai and Pune via the National Highway. From there, state buses or local transport can take you to the base village.

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit is during the cooler months (October to March), as the trek can be challenging during the summer heat.
