Overview
Standing at the bustling intersection of Badi Chaupad, Hawa Mahal is one of Jaipur’s most iconic landmarks. Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, this striking structure is often referred to as the "Palace of Winds" due to its unique design. The palace is adorned with 953 small windows, or "Jharokhas", which allowed cool breezes to flow through and keep the interiors comfortable during hot summers.

Hawa Mahal's pyramidal shape, made from red and pink sandstone, resembles a crown. It consists of five stories, each with exquisitely decorated chambers, and offers stunning views of the City Palace, Jantar Mantar, and the busy Siredeori Bazar. A small museum inside displays miniature paintings and relics from the royal era.

History & Architecture
Hawa Mahal was designed by Lal Chand Ustad, inspired by Lord Krishna’s crown. Built to allow the women of the royal family to observe street festivities without being seen, the palace features tiny windows and screened balconies, reflecting the purdah system of the time. The structure has no foundation, making it tilt slightly, and visitors access the floors via ramps rather than stairs.

Shopping & Dining
Outside the palace, the Badi Chaupal market offers a range of souvenirs, including traditional clothing, jewelry, and handicrafts. Street vendors sell popular Rajasthani snacks, such as golgappas and kachoris. A nearby café provides a perfect spot to enjoy views of this architectural gem.
