Overview
The Howrah Bridge, also known as Rabindra Setu, is one of Kolkata's most iconic landmarks. Spanning the Hooghly River, this massive steel cantilever bridge connects the city of Kolkata to Howrah. It holds the distinction of being one of the longest cantilever bridges in the world and carries a daily traffic of over 100,000 vehicles, as well as countless pedestrians. The bridge is particularly mesmerizing at night when it is beautifully illuminated.

The Howrah Bridge was constructed without a single nut or bolt, held together entirely by rivets. Originally built in 1943, it was renamed Rabindra Setu in 1965 in honor of the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. It stretches 705 meters across the Hooghly River and is 82 meters high, making it a true architectural marvel.

For a unique experience, take a ferry ride across the river to enjoy a stunning view of the bridge and the cityscape, especially at night. Whether you're visiting for the history, the engineering, or simply the view, Howrah Bridge offers something special for every traveler.
