Overview
The Hutheesing Jain Temple, established in 1848, is one of Ahmedabad’s most revered Jain temples. Located on Shahibaug Road, the temple is dedicated to Lord Dharmanath, the 15th Tirthankara. This two-story marble structure features 11 deity sculptures and is famed for its intricate architecture, including an impressive dome-shaped structure and a 78-meter-long Mahavir Stambha guarding the temple entrance.
Temple Architecture
Designed by architect Premchand Salat, the temple boasts an octagonal Mandapa with 52 smaller shrines and intricate Tirthankara carvings. The temple is a fine example of Haveli architecture and is home to a 170-year-old eternal flame under the Garbagriha (Sanctum Sanctorum).
History
Sheth Hutheesing Kesarisinh began the temple’s construction with a donation of INR 8 lakh, but his wife, Shethani Harkunvar, completed it after his passing. Today, the temple is managed by the Hutheesing family trust.
Festivals
The temple celebrates major Jain festivals such as Paryushan, Mahavir Jayanti, Diwali, Gyan Panchami, and more. Mahavir Jayanti is particularly significant, marking the birth of Mahavir, the last Tirthankara.
Best Time to Visit
The ideal time to visit is between October and March when the weather is pleasant.
How to Reach
Located 3-4 km from Ahmedabad Railway Station, the temple is easily accessible by bus, cab, or train. It is about 50-60 minutes from Sardar Vallabhbhai International Airport, with the quickest route via Airport Road.
