Overview
Jama Masjid, one of India's largest mosques, was built in 1424 by Sultan Ahmed Shah, the founder of Ahmedabad. This grand mosque, located in the heart of the walled city, also houses the tombs of Ahmed Shah I, his son, and his grandson. The mosque features a stunning blend of Hindu and Muslim architectural styles, showcasing intricate carvings, beautiful arches, and a serene courtyard with an ablution pool. Its unique meshwork in the prayer hall allows natural light to filter in without direct sunlight.

History
Built over 13 years, Jama Masjid was the largest mosque of its time and served as a private prayer hall for the royalty. Although the two main minarets collapsed in 1819, their lower portions remain intact, preserving the mosque's grandeur.

Architecture
Constructed from yellow sandstone, the mosque's central courtyard is surrounded by 260 carved columns and three sides of Arabic calligraphy. The main prayer hall is adorned with four magnificent domes and Indo-Saracenic motifs, blending Jain and Hindu architectural elements. The serene cenotaph of Sultan Ahmed Shah I and his family lies to the west.
