Best Time to Visit Kedarkantha Trek
The best time to embark on this trek is from December to April, when the mountain is covered in snow, creating a picturesque winter wonderland. While the trek is accessible year-round, winter provides the most magical experience, offering beautiful snow-capped landscapes and clear skies for panoramic views. The weather is generally mild, but it’s always a good idea to carry warm clothing and be prepared for sudden temperature drops at higher altitudes.
How to Reach Kedarkantha Trek

By Air: The nearest airport is in Dehradun, Jolly Grant Airport, which is well-connected to major cities in India. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Sankri, the starting point of the trek (approximately 185 km, about 5 hours).

By Train: Dehradun Railway Station is the closest railhead. Regular trains run between Delhi and Dehradun. From the station, you can take a taxi or a bus to Sankri.

By Road: You can also drive from Delhi to Sankri, covering a distance of about 440 km (around 9 hours). Alternatively, you can take a bus to Dehradun and then a local vehicle to Sankri.
Camping and Shelter
While there are guesthouses available at Seema, most trekkers prefer camping along the trail to enjoy the natural beauty of the region. The campsites are surrounded by lush forests and snow-capped mountains, offering a true wilderness experience.
Food and Water Availability
- Food: Basic dhaba food is available at Sankri. For the rest of the trek, it is recommended to carry essential food items as the trekking route does not have many food stalls.
- Water: Water is available at the guesthouses and the Supin River along the route. However, it’s advisable to carry extra water, especially for the longer stretches where refilling options are scarce.
Trekking Itinerary for Kedarkantha Trek
Day 1: Base Camp (Dehradun) to Sankri
- Distance: 220 km
- Duration: 10-11 hours
- Drive from Dehradun to Sankri, a rustic village, and settle into a GMVN guest house. Enjoy your first glimpse of the Swargarohini Peaks.
Day 2: Sankri to Juda Talab
- Distance: 4 km
- Duration: 4-5 hours
- Embark on a trek through pine forests and reach Juda Talab, a beautiful campsite surrounded by mountains.
Day 3: Juda Talab to Kedarkantha Base
- Distance: 4 km
- Duration: 4 hours
- Trek through oak forests to Kedarkantha Base Camp at an altitude of 10,400 feet, with panoramic views of the snow-clad peaks.
Day 4: Kedarkantha Base to Kedarkantha Peak; Descend to Hargaon
- Distance: 6 km
- Duration: 6-7 hours
- Start early to witness the sunrise from Kedarkantha Meadows, then head to the summit for stunning 360° views of the surrounding peaks. Descend to Hargaon Camp.
Day 5: Hargaon to Sankri
- Distance: 6 km
- Duration: 4 hours
- Enjoy the final leg of the trek through pine forests and charming apple orchards, then reach Sankri.
Day 6: Drive from Sankri to Dehradun
- Return to Dehradun, concluding your memorable journey.
