Overview
The iconic Lakshman Jhula is a 450-foot iron suspension bridge spanning the Ganges River, connecting Tapovan and Jonk in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. Built in 1929, it stands 70 feet above the river. Although the bridge is now closed to vehicles due to safety concerns, pedestrians can still cross, while a new glass bridge is being constructed nearby.

Lakshman Jhula is steeped in mythology, believed to be the site where Lord Lakshman crossed the Ganges using just two ropes. The area around the bridge is home to temples, markets, and vibrant spiritual energy.

History
Legend states that Lord Lakshman crossed the Ganges here, leading to the creation of the original rope bridge. After it was washed away in floods in 1924, an iron bridge was built in 1939, which remains today.
