Legend of Lingaraj Temple:
The legend behind the temple is steeped in mythology. It is said that Lord Shiva once favored Bhubaneswar over Benares. Disguised as a cattlewoman, Goddess Parvati ventured into the city and encountered two demons, Kritti and Vasa, who pursued her. After she destroyed them in self-defense, Lord Shiva descended and created the Bindu Sagar Lake, choosing to reside there for eternity, symbolized by the Lingaraj Shivalinga.
