Located in Tiruvanmiyur, Chennai, Marundeeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva as the God of Medicines, Marundeeswarar. History & Legends:
The temple’s rich history is intertwined with legends, including the tale of Lord Shiva teaching Sage Agastya about medicinal herbs. The temple’s name stems from the Tamil words "Marundhu" (medicine) and "Easwara" (God). It’s also believed that Sage Valmiki visited here for redemption, further adding to the temple’s spiritual significance.
Architecture:
The temple features a 5-tiered gopuram, intricately carved pillars, and a beautifully designed sanctum. The Vimana above the sanctum follows the ancient Chaturvastam design. There are smaller shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesha and Lord Murugan, along with a shrine for Goddess Thirupurasundari.
