Overview
Mother House, the headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity, was founded by Mother Teresa in 1950. Located in Kolkata, it serves as a sanctuary for the sick, poor, disabled, and needy. The house is home to over 4,500 sisters who continue Mother Teresa’s legacy of selfless service to humanity.
A visit to Mother House offers a chance to pay respects to Mother Teresa at her tomb and explore an exhibition of her personal belongings and photos, reflecting her remarkable life and mission. The organization’s work continues globally, providing aid regardless of religion or background.
History & Services
Mother Teresa began her mission to care for the homeless and abandoned with a small group of 12 members. Over time, the congregation expanded worldwide, and by 1996, over 500 missions were operating across 100 countries. Mother Teresa passed away in 1997, but her mission of compassion endures.
How to Reach
Mother House is easily accessible from Park Street Metro Station (2 km away) and is well-connected by buses from major points in Kolkata.
