Overview:

Osho Ashram, also known as the Osho International Meditation Resort, is nestled in the serene Koregaon Park of Pune. Founded in 1974, it serves as a haven for meditation, personal growth, and self-discovery. The ashram is renowned for its unique blend of meditation practices and resort-like ambiance, offering visitors a peaceful escape to connect with their inner selves. While open only to members, non-members can visit by purchasing a one-day pass.

Visitors can engage in various dynamic and passive meditation techniques like Vipassana, Kundalini, and Dynamic Meditation, among others. The ashram also focuses on teachings of love, creativity, and spiritual freedom.

History:

The ashram was founded by the controversial spiritual leader Osho, formerly known as Rajneesh. Osho’s teachings blend Eastern spirituality with a zest for life, advocating for meditation, love, and freedom. Despite facing criticism for his unconventional ideas on sexuality, marriage, and relationships, Osho gained a global following and made a lasting impact on spirituality. He passed away in 1990, and his teachings continue to guide those seeking deeper meaning.

Life at Osho Ashram:

The ashram offers a tranquil environment, with lush greenery surrounding the complex. Visitors can opt for accommodation at the Osho guesthouse or participate in the Living-in program. Activities run from 6:00 AM to 10:30 PM, including various meditation sessions and classes. The Osho Auditorium is the world’s largest meditation hall. There’s also a strict dress code: maroon robes during the day, white robes for evening meditation, and even maroon swimwear. The dining hall serves delicious vegetarian meals, and excellent medical facilities are available nearby.

Entry and Fees:

Daily entry stickers for meditation programs cost INR 870 for Indians and INR 1,790 for foreigners. First-time visitors must register, with a fee of INR 1,250, which includes a Welcome Morning session, campus tour, and orientation to the ashram. Accommodation costs range from INR 15,000 to INR 20,000 per month.

Tips for Visiting:

  • Ensure children are supervised; those under 12 must be accompanied by parents.
  • The ashram does not offer daycare, so it’s best to visit with genuine interest in meditation.
  • Young adults (12-18 years) should attend with a serious intent to engage in the programs.

How to Reach:

Located just 2 km from Pune's railway station, the ashram can be accessed by auto-rickshaws, taxis, or buses. The peaceful, green surroundings offer a calm atmosphere as you walk about 1 km from the main road to the entrance.
