Overview
The Shah Najaf Imambara, located on Rana Pratap Road in the heart of Lucknow, is an exquisite Muslim monument. This stunning structure is renowned for its Mughal architecture and houses the graves of Nawab Ghazi-Ud-Din Haider and his three wives. The all-white marble building features a large dome, surrounded by a beautifully landscaped floral courtyard, making it an architectural marvel.
Built in the 19th century by Nawab Ghazi-Ud-Din Haider, this congregation hall is also a place of historical significance. The area around the monument is lively, with camel and tonga rides available for visitors. To show respect, visitors are required to remove their footwear and cover their heads when entering the mosque.
History
The Shah Najaf Imambara was constructed in honor of the Caliph Hazrat Ali, designed as a mirror image of the famous Najaf-e-Ashraf tomb in Iraq. Ghazi-Ud-Din Haider, the first king of Awadh, built this monument as a residence and a mosque, dedicated to his beloved spouse, Mumtaz Mahal.
How to Reach
The Shah Najaf Imambara is centrally located in Lucknow and easily accessible by taxi, auto-rickshaw, or public transport. It is approximately 4 km from the Lucknow Junction Railway Station, and you can reach it in about 10-15 minutes.
