Overview

Located in Lucknow, Shahi Baoli is a striking example of Indian and Islamic architectural fusion. Built between 1784 and 1795, this historic step-well was originally constructed by Nawab Asif-Ud-Daula and renowned architect Kifayat-Ullah as a water reservoir for the locals of the time. Despite its humble function, Shahi Baoli stands as a testament to architectural grandeur with its intricate design, featuring five storeys. The bottom three levels were designed as storage space, while the top two levels served as occasional reserves.

The ornate archways, exquisitely carved doorways, and the elegant design of Shahi Baoli make it a notable landmark in Lucknow. The beautiful construction of this reservoir highlights the sophisticated engineering and artistic mastery of the era. Today, it stands as an architectural gem, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich history of the city.
