Overview of St. Mary's Basilica

St. Mary's Basilica, a landmark Catholic church in Bangalore, boasts a rich history and stunning Gothic architecture. Originally established in 1811 as a small chapel, it was rebuilt and expanded multiple times, finally gaining the title of "Minor Basilica" in 1973. The church is famous for its vibrant annual feast in September, celebrating the birth of Mother Mary with social services, processions, and a grand feast.

Legend & Significance

A local legend speaks of how the people of Bangalore turned to Mother Mary during a devastating plague in the 1800s, and their prayers were answered. The church is also known for a miraculous incident where an image of Mother Mary remained unharmed during an attack.
