Overview of Sunheri Mahal
Nestled just 2 kilometers from the iconic Bibi Ka Maqbara and around 6 kilometers from the Aurangabad Railway Station, Sunheri Mahal (also known as Soneri Mahal) is the last remaining palace in Aurangabad. This historical gem was once adorned with golden paintings, which have faded with time, leaving behind a grand two-storey structure. Built in the Rajput architectural style, it stands as a testament to the royal era.
Once known for its shimmering golden artwork, the palace is now a museum showcasing ancient pottery, sculptures, household items, and antique artifacts. Architectural Style of Sunheri Mahal

History of Sunheri Mahal
The Soneri Mahal was constructed between 1651 AD and 1653 AD by a Bundelkhand chief who accompanied Aurangzeb during his Deccan campaign. The original construction cost of the palace was ₹50,000, a significant sum at the time. In 1934 AD, the palace was sold to the Nizam of Hyderabad for INR 26,400, and it remained under private ownership for some time.
In the 1970s, the palace was transformed into a regional museum, although its majestic arches were closed off with plaster and bricks. The museum was officially set up in 1979, and modifications were made in 2001, including the creation of a basin within the premises.
