Overview
Nestled in the Kalupur area of Ahmedabad, Shri Swaminarayan Temple, also known as Akshardham Temple, is dedicated to Narayan Dev. Built in 1822 under the guidance of Swaminarayan, the founder of the Swaminarayan sect, this temple is a stunning example of 19th-century architecture. The intricate carvings, vibrant colors, and elaborate ornamentation of the deities make it a marvel of Gujarati design. The temple is also famous for its morning 'Aarti' and attracts thousands, especially on the day after Diwali.

History
The temple's land was allocated by the British government, and its completion in 1822 was celebrated with a 101-gun salute. Over the years, the temple played an essential role in community development, even returning land for a railway station, later compensated with additional land.

Architecture
The temple’s architecture blends various styles, including local, Marathi, Rajasthani, and British influences. The main sanctum features carvings of deities and life stories of Lord Narayan. The surrounding complex includes a temple for Samkhya Yogi women and the former residence of the temple’s Acharya.
