Overview
Located within the Taj Mahal complex, Taj Museum offers a fascinating insight into the history and construction of this iconic monument. Established in 1982, the museum is housed in a two-story building near the western end of the Taj Gardens, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore artifacts, blueprints, and artworks that highlight the craftsmanship behind the Taj Mahal. It also displays the planning and design of the emperor's and empress's tombs, where the graves are positioned in such a way that the feet always face the viewers.

The museum is an enriching destination for history enthusiasts, showcasing not only the architectural wonders of the Taj Mahal but also the cultural and historical aspects of its creation, including coins minted during the Mughal era and documents related to the Taj’s construction.

Main Attractions
The museum spans two floors with three galleries, each offering something unique:

  1. The first gallery displays plans, letters, and designs related to the construction of the Taj Mahal, including correspondence between Shah Jahan and Raja Jai Singh regarding the supply of marble.
  2. The second gallery features exquisite jade and porcelain objects, such as a jade Quran stand and intricately designed celadon ware.
  3. The third gallery showcases documents, royal decrees, and stunning calligraphy related to the Taj Mahal.

Not to be missed is the ivory portrait of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, a beautiful representation of the royal couple.

How to Reach
The Taj Museum is located inside the Taj Mahal complex. To reach the monument, you can take tongas (horse-drawn carriages), electric buses, or auto-rickshaws. As part of efforts to reduce pollution, vehicles are not allowed near the Taj Mahal, and visitors must park in designated areas a short distance away. Non-electric tourist buses are available from the parking lots to the Taj.
