A Glimpse into Royal History

Nestled within the Bangalore Fort, Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace is a stunning example of Indo-Islamic architecture. Built between 1781 and 1791, this wooden palace, once a retreat for Tipu Sultan, is adorned with intricate frescoes, arches, and motifs. The palace, surrounded by lush gardens, offers a peaceful escape from the bustling city, while giving a vivid glimpse into the royal lifestyle of the Mysorean ruler.

Visitors can explore the serene palace, stroll through its balconies, and experience the rich history captured in paintings and carvings. The nearby museum showcases artifacts from Tipu Sultan’s reign, including weapons, portraits, and a replica of Tipu’s iconic tiger.

Architecture & History

The palace, constructed under Tipu Sultan’s father, Hyder Ali, is built with teak and stone, supported by massive wooden pillars. It features accentuated arches, decorated ceilings, and stunning frescoes. The ‘Zenana’ quarters, where the royal women resided, boast beautiful frescoes and intricate detailing. The palace also includes a royal balcony from where Tipu Sultan held his durbars.

After Tipu Sultan’s death in 1799, the British used the palace as a Secretariat. Today, it’s managed by the Archaeological Survey of India and continues to captivate visitors with its historic charm.
