Overview
St. Francis Church in Kochi stands as a remarkable testament to Portuguese architecture, making it one of the most unique European churches in India. Built in the 15th century by Portuguese traders, this historic church holds significant cultural and historical value. It is famously known as the final resting place of Vasco da Gama, the legendary Portuguese explorer, who passed away during his third voyage to India in 1524. Although his remains were later moved to Lisbon, his gravestone still remains at the church, adding to its rich legacy.
